Last month I received a surprise message from a publishing firm requesting permission to use my image for the cover of Isaac Asimov's "The Caves of Steel". At first I thought perhaps this was one of those spam messages I get from time to time from someone claiming to have seen my gallery here at DA, but turned out this was the real deal. The company is Hayakawa Publishing Corporation based in Japan, and they specialize in publishing Western literature translated to Japanese. They found my rendition of "The Caves of Steel" here at DA for sure, since this is the only place I've submitted the image. So hooray for DeviantArt (and maybe Google image search, but still it links back to here)!!!
Today I received my copies in the mail as they promised. I've been itching to announce this sooner, but I've been waiting until I knew for certain that it would indeed happen, especially given the circumstances and terrible disasters that have fallen on Japan recently.
I originally made this image for pure fun, but more importantly as a tribute to one of my all-time favorite authors and books.
Here's the original image I made:
And here's the image as it appears on the book:
What an honor and a pure thrill this is for me! I never would have dreamed that this would happen.
Of course I have thank my good buddy, Ariel-X
, who allowed me the pleasure to use some of his awesome objects to create the "caves" - namely the "Hello Kitty Space Tunnel", which incidentally was just a random name he gave it at the time, but now seems quite apropos. LOL
And a big thanks to all my friends and fellow artists here at DA. You constantly fill me with inspiration and encouragement.
Hope everyone has a great week!
Cheers!
