I wanted to make a vintage looking character. If you recognize this character as looking a lot like Jak Hill, well, you'd be right. There's a reason for that, but I won't spill those beans just yet.
For now, this is Chief Warrant Officer John Kelly, who was the research equipment specialist on board the doomed exploration ship, Blue Star.
In the early decades of settlement in the new system, planet Orion was the only colonized world. Once they had re-established spaceflight, they set their sites on the other planets, most notably the ones orbiting the companion star just beyond the asteroid belt. The Blue Star was sent to explore and survey this region specifically. Shortly after reaching orbit of Orionis B, the ship sent out a distress signal, then all communications went silent. Since all remote probes sent to that region had also failed, no rescue was attempted, and that region of the solar system was marked off limits.
There was much debate and fear from the colonists that they were not alone in the solar system, that some alien race perhaps had made it clear to the humans and their craft to stay away. The media began calling this unknown force "The Threat".
Five years later, the Orion government officially pronounced dead the 30-member crew of the Blue Star.
Much, much more to come with all this. We're still fleshing out the details, so hopefully we can spill little secrets here and there. It adds some mystery, and there's a whole complicated other bunch of stories just begging to be written. Ariel-X and I have spent countless hours and emails hashing the whole thing out. It's so much fun!
